As we enter into these last days of summer, that back-to-school feeling is in the air. Maybe your children are heading back to daycare or school, maybe you are going back to work, or perhaps you are simply settling back into a routine after summer vacation. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes find it tough to get back into the swing of things after enjoying summer at a slower pace.
Whether your transition back to a routine is gradual or quick, remember to be kind and forgiving to yourself and your children. It is normal to feel tired and drained when returning to a more intensive schedule. Be sure to allow everyone in your family some space to adjust, and look for ways to get some downtime.
If you feel like you could use a little extra support for you and your family, please take a look at the services offered by our partners at Jeffery Hale Community Services. They offer a variety of services to meet the needs of families, parents and children, from early childhood (0 to 5) and throughout the school years.
Is your child starting school in the fall?
I highly recommend consulting the following wonderful school readiness documents from the School Services team at Jeffery Hale Community Services:
- Welcome to Kindergarten
- Are you ready for school? Morning routine checklist
- Children and sleep
- It’s back-to-school time for lice too!
Have fun with your families at Fall Fest!
We hope to see you and your families out and about at VEQ’s Fall Fest at St. Vincent School on Saturday, September 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Come out to meet local community groups and businesses, while enjoying fun activities with your whole family. The agenda for the day includes inflatable games, face painting, live performances by cultural groups, and much more! As well, once again this year, our Wellness Centre Family Matters team will be running family field games and a motor skills course for kids outside. Be sure to stop by and say hi to Jarryd and me!

Stay tuned for exciting changes to our Family Matters programming starting in October which will bring more regular programming for our early childhood activities.
Follow us on Facebook and check out our events calendar often to stay tuned for updates about all our activities.
Wishing you all a lovely September,
Jessica
