Health Care Coverage in Quebec

Quebec’s Health Insurance Plan is a public plan that gives all Quebecers access to free health care. The plan is managed by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (health insurance board), also known as the “RAMQ”. To learn more about this plan, please visit the RAMQ website.

Everyone who is eligible for the Quebec Health Insurance Plan has a duty to register under the plan. You also have a duty to register your dependents (for example, your children). The RAMQ will issue a health care card  to everyone who is eligable. This card is often referred to as la carte-soleil because it has a sun on it.  To learn more about eligibility requirements for the Quebec health insurance plan continue reading here: https://www.educaloi.qc.ca/en/capsules/public-health-insurance-plan

Quebecers who do not have a private drug insurance plan are eligible for the public drug insurance plan which is also managed by RAMQ.
